It was 20 years ago in 1995 that SBK World Superbike first came to Laguna Seca, and producer Jim Gianatsis began working with WSBK producers Maurizio and Paolo Flammini. That year Jim first provided the beautiful FastDates.com Calendar Kittens, who are already at the track on race weekend to shoot with all the top factory World Superbikes, to also serve as the official SBK grid and podium girls on race day.

America's Top Builders Return to LA Calendar Motorcycle Show Sunday July 20th
Many of America's top Celebrity Custom Bike Builders will be making their return to this year's 2014 LA Calendar Motorcycle Show & Concourse d' Elegance now relocated to the beautiful Malibu Golf Course in the Santa Monica Mountains above the Pacific Ocean on Sunday July 20th. Featured builders include Richard Pollock / Mule Motorcycles who just took 1st Place Custom at the 2014 Quail Motorcycle Gathering on May 17th with his just completed custom Triumph "Ivan the Terrible" which featured a James Dean Porsche 550 Spyder build theme. Marquez Makes it 8 for 8 for Honda at Assen, Dovizioso Brings Ducati in 2nd
Dutch TT, Assen, Race Report, Saturday, June 28, 2014 - Honda’s defending World Champion Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda RC213V) claimed an eighth win in eight races at the Dutch TT today, with team-mate Dani Pedrosa joining him on the podium to make a double celebration for the factory team, in a race made complicated by typically unsettled Assen weather.
The 21-year-old Marquez had to conquer treacherously changeable conditions at the classic 4.542-km Assen circuit, where rain showers alternated with clear spells on a surface that dries quickly. It made tyre tactics crucial, and dictated a mid-race change of bikes in the first flag-to-flag event this year. Most riders started the 26-lapper on wet tyres, and Marquez led a tentative field away for the first five laps, pursued by Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati) on a track that was drying quickly.
At the end of lap six Marquez was the first into the pits to change to a bike with slick tyres to suit the changed conditions, followed directly by Dovizioso. But the Italian took over the lead as Marquez narrowly survived a slide on his out lap that took him off the track onto the run-off, losing four seconds on his rival.
Marquez was able to whittle away at the gap, finally catching and directly passing Dovizioso on lap 16. From there he was unchallenged to the end, and had enough time to spare to mime the actions of a swimmer over the line, lying on the tank of his class-leading RC213V Honda with his legs kicking out behind.
Yamaha's Valentino Rossi might have won the race, being the only rider in the field to gamble starting the race with slick tires on a still wet track. But after one lap of the race on the wet track, Valentino pulled into the pits to switch to his back-up bikes with rain tires. However within a few more laps the track would dry out enough that he and everyone else with rain tires would have to return to the pits to change to slick trires again. The 2nd unplanned pit stop left Rossi down in 5th place.
Former 125 and Moto2 World Champion Marquez is already the youngest ever World Champion, winning at his first attempt on the Repsol Honda last season. His eighth win in eight races is another significant boost to his ever-growing lead on points this year, now 72 points, with the season not yet halfway over.
Third place for a second successive race also boosted former 125cc and double 250cc champion Pedrosa’s position. The experienced Repsol Honda RC213V rider is now equal on points for second overall with Valentino Rossi (Yamaha), who finished fifth today.
Pedrosa pitted for a bike change one lap after Marquez, having closed up on fast-starting pole qualifier Aleix Espargaro (Yamaha). They came out of the pits almost together, and were furiously engaged for much of the rest of the race, changing places a number of times, before Pedrosa managed to claim a decisive advantage with eight laps remaining. The many pit stops and frequently changing fortunes made it a complicated race to follow for the huge crowd of 90,000; all the more so when rain started to fall again briefly after 12 laps, though it never amounted to a real shower.
Marc Marquez, Repsol Honda: 1st -“It was a tough day because this was a race where I could have lost many points, but we were still able to extend our lead in the championship. So I’m very pleased with how it has gone and how we dealt with the flag-to-flag. It was our first experience of a race like this, with both wet and dry conditions, and we even had a little scare after the bike change. We are very happy with this victory and to have got a very important 25 points on a weekend we had circled on the calendar as possibly difficult.”
Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team #04) 2nd - “The conditions today were very difficult but we managed to get a good start with the right choice of tyres and a perfect race strategy. I had a good feeling with the bike right away, there wasn’t much water but the grip was good, you just had to understand which corners were wet and which were dry. Both Marc and I were able to interpret the track quicker than the others and we pulled out a good gap straight away. I followed him for the early laps, this was my strategy, then I managed to pass him when he made a mistake but his pace was quicker than mine. This second podium of 2014 is very important for us: we are all working so hard and I really want to thank my team!”
Dani Pedrosa, Repsol Honda: 3rd - “It was a very difficult race and even a bit chaotic at first, when it came to having to decide which tyres to put on the bike. I kept a cool head and chose the option of wets, because at first the track was a little damp. I should have pushed more on the opening laps as the track began to dry out – but I chose not to in case it rained again. The rain didn’t come and I had a good fight with Aleix for the podium in the dry. I am happy to have taken the rostrum finish, because you never know how races like today’s might go. This one went well for us and we are now focusing on doing a good job in Germany.”

Final Technical Rules Announced for new 2015 World Superbike Single Evo Class
Scott Smart, FIM Technical Director - "In 2013 they introduced the EVO Class and it was agreed it would run through 2014 with the regular Superbikes, and again it would continue into 2015 and be the rule for the entire class. However, since that time we've made amendments to the rules to allow more manufacturers to be completive. Isle of Man, 8th June 2014 -. BMW Motorrad and Michael Dunlop (NI) have repeated history, echoing Georg “Schorsch” Meier’s (DE) legendary Senior TT victory of 1939 on the Isle of Man. Dunlop’s third BMW-powered victory of the week came in the most prestigious race of all: the blue riband Senior TT race. Before that, Dunlop had already won the Isle of Man TT Superbike and Superstock races on the BMW S 1000 RR. And it was him again who triumphed in an exciting and thrilling Senior TT race.
BMW Motorrad UK entered into road racing in 2014 to celebrate Meier’s famous victory of 75 years ago, in which he rode his factory Type 255 Kompressor and took BMW Motorrad’s first ever TT win. Joining forces with Hawk Racing, the team behind the Buildbase BMW Motorrad British Superbike entry, and supported by BMW Motorrad Motorsport, BMW Motorrad / Hawk Racing was formed.
The experts from Munich helped with their expertise, but also with technical support. For example, BMW Motorrad Motorsport supplied the Superbike engine for Dunlop’s RR. Beginning with the North West 200 in May, Dunlop and the team took victories in both the Superstock and Superbike classes as part of their build up to the Isle of Man TT. The BMW Motorrad / Hawk Racing team have now added a further three TT trophies to the tally, proving that the BMW S 1000 RR is a force to be reckoned with in road racing.
Twenty five-year-old Dunlop has secured his own place in history by increasing his total to a stunning 11 TT wins, three of them coming this week onboard BMW S 1000 RR machines in the Superbike, Superstock and Senior TT races. I had always ridden, owned and raced Japanese Superbikes up until one spring day in 1993 when my good buddy Scott Reif who word at Honda R&D of America designing new bikes, brought one of their newly purchased 2nd Generation Ducati 916 Superbikes on one of our regular Sunday morning rides. Scott let me ride the bike on our twisty canyon roads, and the first corner I came to the bike seem to dive into the corner without any input and railed its way through and powered out our like it was on rails. And that V-Twin punch was just icing on the cake. At that point in time it was far and away the best sportbike I had ever ridden. I had to own one.

EBR Introduces 1190SX Superfighter Sport Bike
July 1st, 2014 - Following the successful introduction of its 1190RX superbike, Erik Buell Racing has introduced the EBR 1190SX, a true naked streetfighter-style sport bike with uncompromised Superbike race-bred performance and handling.
Sharing the 1190RX’s V-Twin engine rated at 185 crankshaft horsepower and more than 100 lb.-ft. of torque, the new EBR 1190SX delivers the highest performance available in the streetfighter category. EBR founder and Chief Technical Officer Erik Buell is no stranger to streetfighter-style sport bikes, having defined the category with the introduction of the S1 Lightning in 1995.
“The streetfighter classification, which was so revolutionary when we first came to market, is now being used by marketing people for all sorts of motorcycles, including some thinly-disguised standard bikes that have de-tuned or obsolete powertrains,” said Buell. “So, perhaps the appropriate new name for a bike like the 1190SX is, ‘Superfighter.’“
With much componentry carried over from the EBR 1190RX superbike, the 1190SX is a genuine high-performance motorcycle with a racing heritage. True to its “streetfighter” designation, however, the 1190SX is designed to be a dominating street machine. Featuring an athletic upright riding position and wider handlebars for nimble handling, and minimalist bodywork for lower weight, the 1190SX is equally at home carving canyons on the open road or taking on the concrete canyons of the city.
As with all EBR sport bikes, the 1190SX features many Erik Buell signature innovations to optimize handling and performance, such as fuel in the frame for lower weight and centralized mass, hubless wheels and perimeter brake rotors for lower unsprung weight, and EBR’s proprietary Controlled Swirl Induction (CSI), which improves power and fuel economy, while lowering exhaust emissions.
The 1190SX is being introduced with a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $16,995 and is available in white, red and black color schemes. Shipments to EBR dealers will begin in early July.
 The LiveWire looks great with its modern technology and design. But we think it falls short in the quality of components, like with the whimpy single cilaiper front brake, but then Harley may be planning to introduce it at a low price point. There's no accomodations on this model to carry a passenger like a commuter bike might. And while looking like a hard edged streetfighter, it lacks the higher end suspension and brakes. The model is actually wearing a flesh colored helmet with red hair.
Harley-Davidson Goes Electric with LiveWire
July 1st, 2014 - Harley-Davidson isthe first major motorcycle manufacturer to dip its toe into the controversial waters that are electric motorcycles with the unveiling of the 'LiveWire' project - a road going pre-production prototype with which it intends to gauge and garner consumer reaction.
The Motor Company intends to tour dealers along America's historic Route 66, giving riders the chance to test-ride the 'LiveWire', in an outreach market research exercise aimed at softening-up dealers and traditional Harley riders for a brand extension exercise that could easily come back to haunt the company if not handled creatively.
The plan is to continue the program domestically and internationally through 2015, with no firm commitment yet being made as to whether or not the bike will ever make it to retail at all, or as to what the eventual specification will be.
By leaving themselves open to respond to feedback, and allowing the present concept to put down roots, Harley-Davidson are being smart, both in brand management and technology terms; vehicle e-power, for 2 and 4 wheelers, remains a fast moving and unstable landscape defined by compromise.
"America at its best has always been about reinvention," says Matt Levatich, H-D President and COO. "And, like America, Harley-Davidson has reinvented itself many times in our history, with customers leading us every step of the way. Project LiveWire is another exciting, customer-led moment in our history".
Harley say that in order to gain as much feedback as possible, interested parties who do not get the chance to actually ride the bike can still offer their opinions through Jumpstart – a simulated riding experience. The ride and feedback operation will begin on Route 66 and visit over 30 Harley dealerships in 2014. The ‘LiveWire Experience’ will then continue not only in the US, but also Canada and Europe in 2015.
"This builds on many recent reinvention successes for Harley-Davidson," continued Levatich. "In just the last few years, we've broadened our reach to serve an increasingly diverse society, as well as reinvented our approach to product development and manufacturing. This has resulted in cutting-edge products like the recently launched Project Rushmore touring bikes, Harley-Davidson Street 500 and 750 models, and this reveal of Project LiveWire."
In a classic demonstration of Marketing Rule One, Mark-Hans Richer, Harley-Davidson Senior VP and Chief Marketing Officer, addressed the sound-issue head-on in order to start the process of heading-off the complaints that will pour in from traditionalists and take ownership of a primary brand differentiator and place it into a differentiated context.
"The sound is a distinct part of the thrill," he is quoted as saying. "Think fighter jet on an aircraft carrier. Project LiveWire's unique sound was designed to differentiate it from internal combustion and other electric motorcycles on the market.
"We offer a no excuses riding experience in everything we do and we are led by what our customers tell us matters most. Because electric vehicle technology is evolving rapidly, we are excited to learn more from riders through the Project LiveWire Experience to fully understand the definition of success in this market as the technology continues to evolve.”
