MV Agusta team Yakhnich World Superbike photo
The RussIian Team Yakhnich won the 2013 World Supersport title for MV Agusta. For 2014 they will return with a full MV factory Supersport and Superbike effort.

MV Agusta enters World Supersport & Superbike in 2014 with Team Yakhnich

November 20th, 2013 - After more than 37 years from the last World Championship race win in the Grand Prix class (Giocomo Agostini, Nurburgring, 1976), MV Agusta makes its official comeback to a premier class in international motorcycle racing. The iconic Italian brand, which has a record of 37 Championship and 38 Manufacturers titles, will be officially involved at world level with the Yakhnich Motorsport Team.

Starting from 2014, MV Agusta will take on the challenge of both the eni FIM Superbike World Championship and the Supersport World Championship which was recently won by Yakhnich Motorsport, in only their second season in the series.

MV Agusta and Yakhnich Motorsport will carry on the bikes development for both the Championships, this is why they gave new life to the historical brand "MV Agusta Reparto Corse". Both companies are focused on a long-term partnership that goes beyond sporting activities and extends to high-tech and international industrial collaboration, as well as to international relations between Italy and Russia - since Yakhnich Motorsport is also the organiser of WSBK Russian Round.

The goal for 2014 is to race up front in World Supersport - where the F3 has already shown its potential during the past season - and to develop the F4 RR in order to be protagonist in 2015, when new technical regulations will come into place.

Riders line-up for Yakhnich Motorsport MV Agusta Reparto Corse will be revealed by the end of November.

Giovanni Castiglioni, MV Agusta President said: "Our official return to racing is a very ambitious and important step for us. Racing has always been my dad's greatest passion and this drove the brand to victory in many disciplines of motorcycle racing, from 500cc GP to Paris-Dakar and to the first Superbike World Championship titles won with Ducati. His dream was to see MV back to racing and I am so proud to be the one doing so."

Alexander Yakhnich, Yakhnich Motorsport President: "We worked very hard to achieve the great results of 2013. The partnership with MV Agusta opens a whole new set of opportunities. We are truly happy of the agreement and we look forward to further success."

Javier Alonso, WSBK Executive Director: "We're glad to announce the official return of MV Agusta to the WSBK series. The Italian brand is not only globally important but has an iconic and successful racing history, so welcome back and all the best to both the Manufacturer and the Team for the upcoming season."

2013 EICMA Motorcycle Show
Milan, Italy, November 7th-10th 2013 - The 71st International Motorcycle Show, the world's largest annual media, trade and consumer event for motorized two wheeler manufacturers and accessory companies continued to excite again this year with some very exciting new motorcycle model introductions and beautiful spokesmodels. It's great to see that despite the down trodden world economy, aging buyer demographics and world ecological conditions, performance motorcycle are more the rage than ever. And in this regard the European manufacturers continue to lead the world with new bike introductions and increased sales, while the once dominate Japanese Big Four manufacturers continue to struggle with warmed over big bikes and smaller displacment enty level bikes that are 20 years to late to seduce the younger generation who no longer have an interest or the financial income to own an expensive 2-wheel toy.

Brough Superior SS100 photo

Brough Superior
Mark Upham from Australia has been building exact replicas for a few years now of the iconic and expensive Brough Superior motorcycle from the 1920s. Recently he seems to have gotten some big bucks investor financing as he is now set on world domination, first with a new GP class Moto2 race bike he revealed to us a few months ago, and now with an all new SS100 Brough Superior production bike. This is the bike Upham thinks Brough would be buiding today in the 21st Century if the company had survived the last 70 years. At a price of $75,000 each it will be interesting to see how many wealthy collectors will wanted one of these parked in their museus next to their original 1926 Brough Superior SS100.

EUGENE LAVERTY SIGNS CRESCENT SUZUKI WSB
Team Suzuki Press Office – November 12. Crescent Suzuki has signed 2012 eni FIM Superbike World Championship runner-up Eugene Laverty to lead the team’s assault on next year’s title fight.

The 27-year-old Irishman will join the team with immediate effect and will participate in the team’s final test of the season at Jerez on November 25th and 26th, where he will get his first taste of the Yoshimura-powered Suzuki GSX-R. Prior to the test, Laverty will be at the ‘Motorcycle Live’ Show on Saturday November 23rd at the NEC in Birmingham as a guest of Suzuki UK, where he will make his first official appearance as a Suzuki rider.

Laverty won a staggering nine races in 2013 and headed to the final round of the season with a chance of the championship, where - despite winning both races – he narrowly missed out on the title. The Irishman brings with him a wealth of experience gained throughout many different championships in his career including British 125cc Championship, MotoGP™ 250cc division and twice runner-up in the World Supersport class.

The Crescent Suzuki team is currently pushing forward with an aggressive development plan for the GSX-R1000 Superbike in order to further increase its competitive level in 2014, and looks forward to matching these improvements to the clear racing ability of its new rider.

Eugene Laverty: "I'm delighted to join Crescent Suzuki for the 2014 season. I will try the GSX-R1000 for the first time at the end of this month to better understand our potential, and I am really excited to see what I can do with the bike. Thank you to Paul Denning and his team, and to Suzuki, for pushing so hard for this deal and for believing in me. I will give everything I possibly can to bring Suzuki to the top of the podium again!"

Paul Denning – Team Manager: “It is an exciting prospect for the Crescent Suzuki team to have secured the services of a rider of Eugene’s calibre. He has shown regularly this season that he has the determination, ability and technique to secure superb results, even when things are against him. Eugene brings a different level of expectation to the team and it is now up to us to give him the tool for the job. We have made big steps this season with the GSX-R, and with further developments planned for 2014 I am convinced that Eugene will be able to get the maximum potential from the Suzuki.”

Cresent SSuzuki & Leon Camier PPart Company
Team Suzuki Press Office November 6th - Crescent Suzuki bids Leon Camier a fond and regrettable farewell as his second year with the team has drawn to a close.

Camier joined the Crescent World Superbike team at the end of 2011 and has been a popular addition to the team ever since. He brought a wealth of experience to the Crescent Suzuki squad and all who have worked with him have benefitted from this and his friendly, accessible manner.

The Englishman was responsible for FIXI Crescent Suzuki’s first-ever WSBK podium, when he finished third at Nurburgring in 2012 and repeated that feat again at Silverstone this season. He has been hampered with some serious injuries in 2013, but has always fought back quickly with a very positive attitude.

Suzuki, Crescent Motorcycle Company, 2012/13 title sponsor FIXI, all members of the squad and the team’s other sponsors, partners and associates would like to wish Camier well for the future in both his racing and personal life and to thank him for the two-years of hard work, dedication and professionalism that he has given the team.

Details on the 2014 line-up for Crescent Suzuki WSBK will be announced in the near future.

Paul Denning – Team Manager: “On behalf of all at Crescent and all our sponsors and partners, I would like to thank Leon for the two years that he has been with the team. He has not only been the consummate professional at all times and a great ambassador, he has also become a close friend. His infectious nature is a pleasure to have around the team and he will certainly be missed. I don’t think we ever saw the best of Leon, due to some unfortunate injuries, but if points were awarded for dedication to get back to full fitness then he would have been 2013 World Champion!

“I wish Leon the very best of luck for the future and I am genuinely sad to see him leave the team. He is a highly talented racer who deserves to get back to the winning circle.”

Edelweiss Bike Tour

EDELWEISS OFFERS NEW and AFFORDABLE MOTORCYCLE TOUR ALONG THE DOLOMITES WITH CHALLENGING ROADS, OVERWHELMING MOUNTAIN SCENERY AND ITALIAN CUISINE AT ITS FINEST.
The Dolomites are a must for a passionate biker – come with us on an unforgettable motorcycle tour. The countryside is dominated by mountains, rivers, and gorge-like valleys, which have just space enough for a road and railroad tracks; but there are also bigger towns like Bolzano, where our base hotel is located.

Thinking about Italian culture you will notice quite a big difference from what you may expect; building style, cultures, languages, bilingual road signs and special foods show that varied peoples and ideas peacefully co-exist here. The Sella Ronda is a very good warm-up for the following days and our rides to Penserjoch, Jaufenpass and Timmelsjoch.

Eight more passes are on our schedule for the next day and we will have the opportunity to stop in the nice little town of Cortina d’Ampezzo, well known from the Olympics in 1956. Now it’s time to make a decision: go to Venice for sightseeing or collect 10 more passes? Tough call! The last riding day leads us south to the wonderful Lake Garda, with swimming and riding at its best.

THROUGH THE ALPINE WONDERLAND OF AUSTRIA AND SOUTHERN GERMANY – THE ALPS AND LAKES MOTORCYCLE TOUR!
The Alps and Lakes motorcycle tour takes you through a beautiful part of European motorcycle paradise; the Alps. The contrast between the beautiful lakes in southern Germany and Austria and the towering mountains that reach up to more than 10,000 ft is nothing less than breathtaking.

This area is the famous background for the movie "Sound of Music“. This vacation offers a little bit of everything: beautiful and relaxing rides through the valleys; some mountain roads and passes; and great vistas and sights, including King Ludwig‘s castle, Herrenchiemsee, and the historic city of Salzburg. The tour consists of five riding days, one of them is a rest day – which means that you stay two nights at the same hotel.

This is a great opportunity to explore a little bit more, ride around the countryside, walk through town, meet the locals and sample some of the local food. The tour will take you through Germany and Austria, and on the rest day you can even add Italy to your list if you are so inclined.

THE MARC OF GREATNESS: MARQUEZ BECOMES YOUNGEST MotoGP KING
Nov 10th - Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda RC213V) won the 2013 MotoGP World Championship in superb style at Valencia today when he finished the season finale in third place. The result secured him a historic crown – he is now the youngest premier-class king in history – by four points from Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha) at the end of a thrilling and fascinating championship campaign.

Marquez’s brilliance gives Honda its 16th riders’ title, three decades after its first premier-class crown won by Freddie Spencer in 1983.

The 20-year-old’s MotoGP title success is the crowning achievement of what is already a stellar career. After winning the 2010 125 World Championship and the 2012 Moto2 world title, the super-talented youngster graduated to MotoGP at the start of this year, looking to serve his apprenticeship in the world’s fastest, toughest motorcycle racing series.

However, Marquez never for a moment looked like a rookie. The Spanish prodigy scored a podium finish first time out at Qatar in April, then two weeks later dominated the Grand Prix of the Americas in Texas, where he became the youngest-ever rider to start a premier-class race from pole position and the youngest to take victory in a category that’s now dominated by awesome 250 horsepower motorcycles that reach 345km/h (215mph).

Marquez took both those records from another Honda hero, American genius Spencer, who had held the youngest pole record since the 1982 Spanish Grand Prix at Jarama, Spain, and the youngest winner record since the Belgium GP at Spa a few months later.

Spencer, undoubtedly one of the greatest bike racers of all time, is in awe of the young Spaniard, just like everyone else. “It’s exciting to see young riders come along and make an impact!” says the man who won three World Championships in the 1980s and was the youngest premier-class champ until today. “I like the excitement he brings with his riding style and personality.”

Humble and highly intelligent, Marquez kept his feet firmly on the ground despite making history. “You can beat a record,” he said in Texas. “But in future, maybe another rider will win a race when they are younger than me.”

Spencer is right about Marquez’s riding style, which has taken MotoGP to a whole new level. His two years in the Moto2 class taught him how to get the absolute maximum out of a motorcycle and how to maintain the machine on the every brink of control. Now he has his RC213V dancing around beneath him, rear wheel sometimes in the air as he tips into corners, then burning dark arcs of rubber on the tarmac as he opens the throttle. But he isn’t merely stunningly fast and extremely brave; he also has the mind of a master tactician.

His career statistics speak for themselves. He has ridden 18 MotoGP races, taking podiums in 16, including six wins, plus nine pole positions and 11 fastest laps. In Moto2 he won 16 races from 32 starts – an amazing 50 per cent success rate – plus a further nine podiums and 14 pole positions. When he was a Grand Prix beginner in the 125 category he took ten wins and 14 poles from 42 starts.

There is no doubt that Marquez’s 2013 Repsol Honda RC213V perfectly suits his aggressive riding style, allowing him to attack corner apexes with a speed and commitment that few others can match. The youngster quickly developed a superb relationship with Honda Racing Corporation staff, who now know exactly what he needs to produce lightning-quick speed and race-winning consistency.

His 1000cc Honda R213CV is the latest development of Honda’s MotoGP machines that have scored an amazing run of successes since the class switched to four-strokes in 2002. The 990cc RC211V won the 2002, 2003 and 2006 World Championships, the 800cc RC212V won the 2011 title and the RC213V has now secured the 2013 crown. All these machines have the Honda hallmarks of superbly rider-friendly performance and remarkable reliability. They are also rolling laboratories for the development of high-tech electronic performance and safety systems, the major R&D area in modern-day motorcycle racing.

Following Marquez’s maiden MotoGP victory in Texas, his season continued with further astonishing results. He battled for the lead and finished on the podium in four of the next five races, suffering his first DNF at June’s Italian Grand Prix where he crashed out while holding second place.

The mark of true greatness in any sport is how a player responds to hard times and Marquez proved his genius by immediately stepping up his performances. He finished second at the next race at Assen, despite injuries from a practice crash, and then achieved a unique run of four consecutive victories at the Sachsenring, Laguna Seca, Indianapolis and Brno, while his main rivals – team-mate Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda RC213V) and reigning World Champion Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha) suffered injury woes. No rookie had ever won four in a row before, and his fifth win of the year at Brno broke another record. Previously, the greatest number of rookie victories had been achieved by Kenny Roberts, who won four races on his way to becoming the first rookie to win the title in 1978.

Marquez, by now well ahead in the title chase, won again at Aragon and then finished second at the British, San Marino and Malaysian GPs. In Australia he scored no points after being black-flagged for missing the pit-stop ‘window’ in a controversial two-part race, devised to solve problems with tyre longevity. At Motegi he finished a safe second behind Lorenzo, which took him to Valencia with a comfortable 13-point advantage.

By securing the title at the age of 20 years and 266 days – Marquez comfortably beat’s Spencer’s record. The American was
21 years and 258 days when he won the 500 world title at Imola, Italy, on 4 September 1983.

Marquez has been on the road to greatness for many years. From a normal working-class family – his father Julian drove diggers on construction sites and his mother Roser works for a logistics company in their hometown – he got his first minibike when he was four, started racing when he was five and won his first title when he was eight. His younger brother Alex also started competing and now races in the Moto3 World Championship.

The older Marquez tried roadracing soon after he started off-road competition and his talent was quickly spotted by 1999 125 World Champion Emilio Alzamora, who has been his mentor ever since, guiding the youngster with an expert hand through national racing and thence into 125s, Moto2 and MotoGP.

After twice winning the 125 Catalan crown, Marquez made his World Championship debut in Portugal in April 2008. Two months later he achieved his first Grand Prix podium, with a third-place finish in the British Grand Prix at Donington Park. His debut victory in the class came in Italy in June 2010. He won a further nine races that year to take his first world title.

Marquez might have won the Moto2 world title at his first attempt in 2011 but for an injury he sustained when he crashed due to a marshalling error at the Malaysian GP. Nonetheless he fought back to dominate the Honda-powered series the following summer, during which he signed with HRC to graduate to MotoGP with Repsol Honda.

At just 20-years-old Marquez had the world at his feet and with Honda behind him he undoubtedly has the potential to become the greatest rider in the history of motorcycle Grand Prix racing.
