Paramount Movie Ranch State Park, Agoura, CA, October 15th, 2017 - Our Calendar Bike Building Championship joined the Rider RoundUp at the Ranch produced by celebrity Calendar Bike builder Russell Mitchell and wife Rachel / Exile Cycles at the Paramount Western Movie Ranch in Agoura, CA, just down the road from the legendary Southern California biker hangout The Rock Store on Mulholland Highway. It was an exciting day of beautiful Custom Motorcycles, Activities, great tasting Food Truck, BBQ and Craft Beer, Venders, Manufacturers and Live Music. The Rider Round Up at the Ranch was the second year celebration of Exile Cycles’ 20th Anniversary Party held at Paramount Ranch the year before, now continuing on an annual basis. And again it was a benefit to raise money to Fight Leukemia by auctioning off products and services, together with money donated by the Vendors and Sponsors, this year raising $7000 for the Cause.

Here you can see how Yoshizkwa created sand cast aluminum plates that bolted to the front and rear of the Sportster Evolution engine to attach the front and rear suspensions.

Then a steel tube trellis frame similar to used used by Ducati was fabricated
by Yoshizkwa to help stiffen up the engine / chassis and provide mounting points for the fuel tank, seat and bodywork.

Garnering Judge’s Special Mention in this year’s 2017 Championship was 2016 Best of Show winner Yuichiti Yoshizawa / Custom Works Zon / cw-zon.com who again flew in again from Japan with his complete build crew and their newest custom bike named “Zonkeron”. The Harley-Davidson Evo Sportster powered sport bike featured a highly intricate cast aluminum and steel trellis tube frame with a single sided rear swing arm at the back, and a unique twin air shock suspension leading link front fork. All of the bike was enclosed full hand fabricated aluminum seat, gas tank and bodywork.
The styling of Zonkeron's hand made aluminum body work was interesting, if not attractive. And unfortunately it hid much of the unique and well executed original design work that Yoshizkwa did on the bike's chassis and suspension. We had no idea the bike even had a steel tube trellis frame and leading front forks hiding under the aluminum bodywork until he brought the bike to the studio for our Calendar shoot and Yoshi showed us the bike's build photos that you see here.
Because there were nicer looking Custom and Sportbike BIkes entered at the 2017 Calendar Bike Building Championship,
we couldn't give Zonkeron a Class Win. But we could see all the design work and custom fabrication that did go in to creating Zonkeron, so we gave it Yuchi his own special Honorable Mention Award.

After the chassis is completed and the suspension and wheels are installed, it's time to start on the aluminum bodywork. Welding rods are used to create the shape and form of the hand made aluminum bodywork, gas tank and seat assembly.

The aluminum bodywork is now being fabricated over the front suspension., plus the fuel tank and seat cowling.

The full aluminum bodywork is almost completed here.
