Steffano Café9 - Café Superbike
by Jim Gianatsis

Robert Steffano as a really unique guy. He likes high tech sportbikes and the classic old style British cafe racers. The beth of both worlds. So the he custom bikes Robert builds for his customers are very unique, modern day versions of the old Norton and Triumph cafe bikes you might have found parked outside a British pubs back in the 1960's. The Café9 brings a new level of sophistication to the luxury motorcycle market, addling extensive visual and performance modifications to an already state-of-the-art Ducati Superbike, in this case a 999 generation machine. This limited edition bike is built for serious rider and collector who accepts no compromises in the capability and quality of a motorcycle that is truly work of art and a marvel of engineering, and has the money to pay for it.

Weighing in under 400 pounds ready to ride, with 150 horsepower and massive torque of 80 ft-lbs, this race-bred road machine is confidence inspiring while delivering pure superbike performance. Among the special performance modifications which Roberts makes to a donor 999S/R include his own unique polished aluminum rear silencer mated to a chromed Arrow race exhaust system. Suspension at both ends is by race spec Ohlins suspension, with Brembo monoblock race brake calibers mated to full floating black anodized race rotors.

The Cafe9 looses its donor bike's body work, allow you to see the intricate of the very mechanical Testastretta 4-valve motor with its external belt driven DOHC desmodromic valve system, coolers fed by stainless steel braided hoses, unique billet machined aluminum cooling fan shrouds and billet machined dry clutch cover. The unique front fairing is the first thing that catches your eye that this bike is really different, and it looks like it came right out of the 1960's for both styling and function. Robert designed his own carbon fiber tank shell which actually fits over the stock Ducati fuel tank to keep the bike priced within reason and reliable, which still giving it is own unique look. But he also fabricated from scratch his own rear sub frame to support the solo seat and a mini rear fender.

One of our favorite pieces on Cafe9 are Steffano Motors' own unique multi-spoke billet aluminum race wheels. The billet machined construction assure they are super light after being cut from a solid chunk of aluminum. The Cad Cam machined multiple spokes make then look like traditional spoke wire wheels, and the black powdercated finish with red pin striping on the ourside edge make them a purfect modern day compliment to this retro cafe superbike.

Then installation setup of a rear tail light, license place mount and turn signals had yet to be addressed for this initial pro type, but it will probably use a similar bolt-on assembly under the muffler just like on the donor 999 Ducati.

The Café9 combines the awesome performance of the Ducati 999 superbike with Steffano's unique yet timeless styling, museum quality finish and the world's finest components to create a pure roadster with race proven performance, real world comfort, ergonomics, and design unlike anything in the world. The Café9 is a new category in motorcycle production.... the pure luxury exotic sporting motorcycle.
