Above: The original Thunder Road from 1990 on Sunset Boulevard was damaged inside by a fire in 1994. Max and his partner Michael Eisenberg sold the location and Max used his share of the money to buy a new bike shop location (right page) about a mile away on Santa Monica Boulevard.
The old restaurant was renamed by the new owners as ‘Saddle Ranch Chop House’ and it soon become one ot the most popular meet-up locations in Hollywood for both locals and tourists. The old bike shop was located in the adjoining building now used by ‘happyface’ pizza.
“My partner Michael was dating this girl," Max tells us, "and she said, “My grandfather made a movie once, and it was called 'Thunder Road'. Her name was Katie Mitchum, and Robert Mitchum the actor was her grandfa- ther." So Thunder Road, the original restaurant and bike shop, was named after the 1958 Robert Mitchum movie of the same name.
She later brought the movie star in so he could sign a huge poster of the 1958 B-movie 'Thunder Road' that Hushahn has on display in the store.”
